Hospitality of the Ukraine

If you are guest at a house of somebody in Ukraine, the host probable will take you to the city and show interest places during several days. The traditional attitudes of the Ukrainian people, establish that the visitors are fed and entertained during the time that they remain in their house. Offering a guest of a frozen water glass (behavior common in the USA) seems absurd to most of the Ukrainians, so much more whatever that the frozen water can cause in this cold zone.

The corporal language

The space of Ukrainian half personnel is minor than in Germanic and British cultures. Some touch a little during the conversations if they stand up. It is common that women congratulates with a kiss in the cheek. In the gesticulation scale, the Ukrainians are smoother than those of the south areas, but more animated than the Scandinavians. Gestures trend to be less -not American-shaking the arm here! In addition, the smile generally is reserved for the friends. The rigidity and the formality are the rule when they speak in public. Hollywood movies always exaggerated east characteristic when it portrays the Soviets.

Illnesses

Physical diseases feelings and ideas exceed from a patient and differ from one culture to another one. For example, in Ukraine is worse cold than warmed up. The necks and heads must be covered because the cold, but the usage of gloves is not obligatory. Sometimes you can hear about rough draft if you visit Ukraine… A rough draft is a cold air current that filters in a hot room through a window or open door and cools off the zone of the skin that is exhibited. Therefore, if you are traveling in a bus covered in a cold day of winter, it is careful when open the window. You can obtain some disagreeable commentaries.

Superstitions and mysticism

The Ukrainians have conserved superstitions and omens of things, like giving the hand through a door, whistling in the interior, and other things. Everybody knows that these omens and jokes exceed, but try to avoid them. The western society is more rational not only in this sense, but in all the others. Ukrainian religious points of view (especially in those zones where the Orthodoxy predominates) have elements of the mystic and the uncertainty, whereas the western Christians tend to think about terms.

Attitudes

Young Soviet citizens learned to feel guilty if they want to gain more than they had on personal businesses projects that they had. At the same time there was an intense competition and the jealousy that surround professional positions and government, where there would be more opportunities and a higher wage. These ingrained attitudes are frequently at the present time.
